this painting started out as a tribute to the la 80's rock scene. that must have been such an incredible time for those musicians. in the 80's i was living in california going to middle school wearing camo pants and heavy metal t-shirts. we would skateboard and make movies with a beat up video camera. we were definitely listening to motley crue, judas priest and van halen as well as kool moe dee and the beastie boys. as this painting evolved i let the spirit of those times help me to deconstruct its nature and even deface it with graffiti. I love the streets vibration and the anger that comes from it. living hard and raw. 'some direction' and 'put pain here' are reflective of that era- middle school 80's kid. but also a culture finding its way.
