I studied a popular picture of jimi hendrix in A crowd (supposedly dropping a hit of acid, others said he was just chewing gum) for the base of this painting. i had to meditate on it for several weeks before marking it up. i wouldn't call myself a perfectionist but i know what i like and i know when a painting evokes a feeling or image that i am going for. one time my friend and i traveled from the bay area down to la to photograph some rappers for our clothing line. we spent the whole weekend hanging out and partying with rappers while we did photoshoots with them. at the conclusion of the weekend i met up with a friend and a few of the rappers and we went to this diner in hollywood. my friend was telling me that this was a very famous place and that singers and actors would visit the spot all the time. everyone was feeling good and my friend was saying something about alice and wonderland and i got the feeling that i get every now and then sort of like the transfiguration when moses, elijah and jesus met on the mountain top. i love when things come together to create a special moment. it is like a game 7 world series or nba championship when the game is on the line and excellence is at hand. that is when god is present. everyone doing their best and the best are doing it. then the scenario is real, live, open, and magical. It was a very cool moment. shout out to 'girl skateboards'.
