This is my favorite picture of bob marley. the original shows him in a black sweater backstage after his show around 1980. Bob has been such a major influence in my life since i was a young boy in the 1970's. my mom used to play his albums and we would play outside in the yard and she would garden. We lived in a rural area outside of kansas city right off the platte river. our closest neighbor was a few hundred yards away and lived on a huge farm. we were tucked away from the world. we lived there with my older sister and soon to be 2 younger sisters. my mom had remarried in 1974 to a guy named john. they were close to the earth. the 70's in my opinion were the most authentic creative period. bob's music was incredible. it speaks to me. i have listened to his music almost daily since 1996 when i got heavy into him. what led me to move back to california in 1994 was his babylon by bus album. i used to listen to that on high volume. reggae music to me is earth music. it speaks about the vibes of the earth. my first rhyme was written over peter tosh's reggaemylitis as i was on a greyhound bus from atlanta to arizona and subsequently on a train from arizona to san francisco. when i moved out of my sisters house in 1996 i lived off of haight street and would blast the wailers album 'burnin' and sing with it into a microphone while i was learning how to become a performer. my roommates eventually tried to kick me out. but that didn't stop me. i moved to west oakland with a friend and continued to sing bob's songs. eventually i lost all that i had. I have always listened to bob's music through it all. it is the most beautiful. TRUE RICHES ARE IN THE SPIRIT AND RIGHTEOUSNESS ALONG WITH WISOM. bUT ALSO LEARNING THE DARK SIDE. THERE IS ALWAYS A DARK SIDE. mUSIC ENCOMPASSES BOTH. RHYTHM AND TIMING IS THE NEW CREATION. PERHAPS SOUNDS WAS FIRST. PERHAPS MOVEMENT WAS, PERHAPS AWARENESS WAS. THIS IS AN AWAKENING.
